About Us

The New York City Association of Local and Ethnic Media (NYCALEM), a non-profit organization founded in March 2022, champions independent local and ethnic news outlets in NYC. Recognizing the vital role local media plays in a thriving democracy, NYCALEM advocates for the long-term success and financial stability of these outlets.

NYCALEM's members represent a diverse range of print, digital, and broadcast news organizations serving various communities across the city. The organization was formed to address the challenges posed by evolving technology, which has disrupted traditional revenue models. However, NYCALEM views this as an opportunity. By fostering collaboration and innovation, NYCALEM helps its members adapt, explore new strategies, and ensures the continued vitality of local news in New York City.
